Leather care
Leather care
Full-grain leather
Full-grain is the top layer of the hide with the natural grain left intact, so no two pieces are the same. Small marks, creases and variations in tone are part of the leather, not faults, and they soften into a patina with use.
Day to day
Wipe with a dry, soft cloth. Let a wet bag dry naturally, away from radiators and direct sun, and stuff it loosely with paper so it keeps its shape. Avoid hand creams, perfume and anything oily on the leather.
Every few months
Apply a small amount of a neutral leather balm or conditioner with a soft cloth, working it in with circular movements, then buff. Test on the base first. This feeds the leather and keeps it supple.
Storage
When it is not in use, keep your bag in its dust bag somewhere dry, stuffed so the sides do not fold. Do not seal it in plastic.
Scratches and marks
Light scratches on full-grain usually disappear when you rub them gently with a fingertip or a soft cloth, as the natural oils move back across the surface. Deeper marks become part of the bag's character.
Hardware and zips
Keep zips clear of grit and run them fully open and closed occasionally. Brass and gunmetal fittings can be polished with a dry cloth.
